Joy is the founder and Director of Body2Fit, who qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1993 from the University of Teesside. Before establishing Body 2 Fit she worked as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist and Manager within the NHS where she developed a reputation as being an expert clinician in the diagnosis, treatment and management of shoulder and spinal pathologies. She has lectured to physiotherapists and medical colleagues and has also contributed to several published research papers.

She completed a Masters Degree in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy, is a member of the highly regarded Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, a member of the McKenzie Institute of Physiotherapists and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Her interest in analysis of movement patterns and dysfunctions and the development of specific rehabilitative exercise programs led her to train as a Pilates Instructor with the internationally recognised Pilates Foundation. Joy is the only Pilates Foundation teacher in North East England who has trained in both matwork and studio (equipment), and one of only a few practitioners in the country who can combine her skills and knowledge as a Physiotherapist and Pilates teacher resulting in a unique approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of movement dysfunction. She is a member of the teaching faculty of Mbodies Training Academy and offers teacher training from the Body2Fit studio at Wynyard.

Joy is also a Level III CORE work practitioner – a unique soft tissue approach which addresses the body’s connective tissue system. She has undergone specific training in relation to the application of similar techniques to those who have undergone surgical intervention following breast cancer. Joy is one of a few practitioners in the UK who can offer a Pilates programme designed to meet the specialist needs of breast cancer sufferers.

She is also a qualified Ballroom and Latin American Dance Instructor. It was Joy’s love of dance and fitness that originally prompted her to train as a physiotherapist, and she promotes dance as a way of exercising whilst having fun.
